Today’s guest is a jazz musician who speaks to musicians about passion, and moving from an executive to entrepreneurial career. He reminds listeners to be patient and not to get down on yourself when things are not going as well as you hoped. Listen through to the end of this episode and you’ll learn the secret to getting a sponsor without even asking.
Chris plays the trumpet in a number of bands, including his band, The Chris Davis Jazztet. He says he loves playing jazz music because of the challenge. He’s learned business lessons in the music industry that has helped him in the podcasting industry, as well.
His podcast is Behind The Note Podcast: Advice For a Successful Music Career. In the podcast he talks to musicians who are doing well in the industry musically and making a living, to learn more about how to build a music business. His guests have ranged from Dee Snider from Twister Sister to local musicians who are still rocking it financially in the music industry.
We’ll be using titles of jazz tunes as most of the sub-headings today, in honor of Chris and the great music.
TEACH ME TONIGHT
Chris’ experience with podcasts started with the purchase of an iPhone. He discovered podcasts with Pat Flynn’s Smart Passive Income. He was hooked with SPI 052, seeing the title on his phone “How Jazz Musician.”
About a year later, Chris met Pat Flynn in person. He was impressed that Pat brought in over 100 people to a restaurant for a MeetUp he announced on his podcast.
Additionally, Chris found John Lee Dumas’ Entrepreneur on Fire, and was reading business books, trying to learn how to improve his business business. In this phase of his life, his passion to help other musicians learn these principles was growing.
While he was learning, he realized that he was his own avatar.
NEVER GIVE UP
Once he launched his podcast, Chris continued learning, both from his mistakes, from his mentors and from his training. He describes how this education is much like a musician’s education.
He also strongly encourages podcasters to never give up.
He stresses the importance of being consistent with his story of his podcasting failure.
THE IN CROWD
Since his podcast started, Chris says he’s had some unbelievable guests on his show. Names like Dee Snider (Twisted Sister), Chris Botti (Sting), and others.
WHY PODCASTERS PARADISE
Chris says he was looking at several schools to teach podcasting. Podcasters’ Paradise won out on price (especially the monthly payment plan), the presentation of the product, and how he would benefit from each course.
